'Trapped in a Dreadful Dream': Relatives of Unaccounted For Teenagers Desperately Seek Answers After Ski Resort Inferno
The loved ones of teens missing after a deadly blaze at a establishment in a Switzerland's ski resort are enduring an agonising period of uncertainty for confirmed information and pleading for any details about their children online.
The inferno ripped through the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the middle of the night of the first day of the year. Confirmed video reveal the ceiling igniting as beverages with sparklers are raised in celebration.
Officials have warned that it could take an extended period to identify the fatalities of the fire, which resulted in the death of four dozen individuals and injured another over a hundred. Officials said on Friday that the majority of the injured have been accounted for, with work still underway to locate the other six.
In the interim, relatives have been taking to online platforms to plead for clues about their friends who were in attendance that evening.
Heartbreaking Pleas for the Unaccounted For
The whereabouts of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, 16, are not yet determined, according to an appeal from his family.
The who lives of Lutry near the city, informed a publication that she had returned to the city to check whether he was in the medical facility, while his father did the equivalent search in Bern, but could not find him.
"It feels like a terrible dream, a horror. Either I find my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in critical condition. It's terrible," she said.
She explained that some of his companions had been found with burns covering nearly half their bodies. "It's indescribable; they went through a terrifying ordeal."
The Italy's foreign ministry has confirmed that a number of of its citizens are still unaccounted for.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage sportsman, originally from Genoa but now living in the UAE.
The national sporting body has stated that he is deceased, without mentioning the fire, paying tribute to a "young athlete who embodied dedication and authentic values."
His parent, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around midnight. An official spokesperson has clarified that a formal confirmation of his death is awaited.
Other Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also unaccounted for. His mother told reporters that he had been on vacation but had gone out with friends and ended up at the bar.
"Someone with him informed me they ran away after the fire started and that he had his phone with him, but then at a specific moment he they were separated," she recounted, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.
One of his educators commented, "I remember his kindness and positive demeanor, coupled with great responsibility. Often offer to get me a coffee."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Greek and Swiss citizenship but lives permanently in Switzerland, was also at the bar on New Year's Eve, according to sources.
Her sibling has posted an urgent request online, saying the relatives has had "no news" regarding the teenager or the three friends she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
Officials from her other nation say they are closely watching the case.
