Pat Bamford Signs With the Blades After Initiating Abusive Chants About Coach Chris Wilder
The striker has signed with the Championship side only seven months following leading derogatory taunts targeting their manager, Wilder.
This experienced forward, without a club after departing from Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a contract joining the Championship club in difficulty until January. His lengthy career with Leeds concluded amicably this past summer.
One of the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player included starting insulting chants regarding Chris Wilder amid Leeds' promotion celebrations in April. Currently, the one-cap England international will be playing under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to rescue his beloved club away from the relegation zone.
Previous Conflict Between the Striker and the Manager
The pair had a past prior to Leeds won promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign and United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as “a muppet” when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won automatic promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Reconciliation & Looking Ahead
Everything appears to have been put behind them with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement in attack and Bamford looking to revive his career.
The Wilder chant gained traction this spring. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Chris Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I have no issue whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain about the language from a fellow professional! But I valued and respected him calling me.
“We had a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel as well and had a half-hour chat with him and he's a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we would give it and accept it and that’s an integral part of the game across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Patrick.”
Latest Career Struggles
The forward featured in 18 appearances with Leeds United last season but the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough player has struggled with fitness issues in recent years.
