HBO's It Spinoff Debuts Next Early on HBO's Digital Service
Excitement is building for the Stephen King adaptation Welcome to Derry, which is earning acclaim and incorporating themes from other Stephen King works. Now, the network announced that the second installment will arrive early, released fittingly for the spookiest night.
Schedule Change Particulars
Kicking off on the last day of October at 12 a.m. Pacific Time, the next part of Welcome to Derry will premiere on the streaming service, prior to its Sunday HBO premiere. Subsequent episodes of the series run will premiere on Sundays on HBO and HBO Max, culminating in the concluding chapter on December 14th.
Show Background
Taking place within Stephen King’s It universe, It: Welcome to Derry draws from the classic book while building upon the universe realized by director Andy Muschietti in It and It Chapter Two. It Chapter One centered on adolescents battling supernatural evils, so it’s fitting that the series follows in those footsteps. However, the first installment of the streaming show proves it set out to escalate the fear, delivering heightened horror than the movies and establishing a dark atmosphere for what's to come.
Story World and Concepts
Set in 1962, this show presents a different group of adults and children residing in a apparently peaceful community hiding a sinister core. This place operates on a cruel, recurring cycle—characterized by aggression, prejudice, and paranormal events, as a monstrous presence resurfaces once every three decades. Even though It: Welcome to Derry might seem like it skews too close to the cinematic adaptations initially, what sets apart the HBO Max series is its parallel storytelling—narrated via the perspectives of kids and grown-ups simultaneously. The kids stay especially susceptible to It's terror, but older characters aren’t spared facing their personal demons born from local discrimination and covert otherworldly powers.
Episode 2 debuts on Halloween at 3 a.m. EST.
