Flight operations have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport following a major technical issue at the control tower grounded all flights.

All incoming and outgoing flights were halted because of an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.

Several flyers were left waiting in aircraft on the tarmac as the outage continued.

Operations Restart with Residual Impact

A statement indicated at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "patience and understanding".

However, significant disruption are anticipated to continue throughout the day. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been axed, with many others experiencing delays.

An airport representative had previously estimated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be impacted.

"Travelers are urged to check directly with their airline for the most up-to-date details on their specific flights," officials reiterated.

Cause of the Chaos

The problem was traced to the operational halt to an systems failure with its air traffic control provider.

Flyers are still being urged to check the status of their flight before heading to the terminal as residual delays are worked through.
